Welcome New YES Staff

YES is thrilled to welcome five new staff members to the team this fall. The new staff have a diverse wealth of experience working with Boston youth. They are hard at work at YES preparing for the year ahead and are excited to be a part of the YES community.

Dave Esons – College Prep Coordinator (Americorps Massachusetts Promise Fellowship)

Dave attended Adelphi University in New York and received his BFA in communications. For the past 10 years, Dave has been working in the film industry in Hollywood, working in media relations, medical marketing, and Los Angeles. In addition to serving as YES’s College Prep Fellow, Dave is a graduate student at New York University College of Public Health earning his master’s degree in community and international health.

“I’m looking forward to encouraging and supporting youth in their journey towards understanding continuing with higher education,” says Dave. “This is an opportunity to serve youth and the community in an education-related position.”

Eric Geels – Program Coordinator

Eric attended Dordt College in Iowa, where he grew up. He has spent the past year as YES’s Adventure Programs Coordinator through Americorps. In this position, he had the opportunity to facilitate Outdoor Adventure and Operation SnowSports activities and oversee Outdoor Adventure activities with four school-year partners. YES is thrilled that Eric is joining the team as a full-time staff member.

“I’m excited to get outdoors in new places with youth for their first time,” says Eric. “I love introducing youth to new activities and watching them learn and grow.”

Jasmine Reed – Youth Leadership Coordinator

When she was in high school, Jasmine was a participant in YES programs before going on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Bridgewater State University. She previously worked as a Counselor at Crossroads for Kids, and was thrilled to hear about the opportunity to work at YES and be a part of the organization that she loved in high school.

“I am most excited about working with youth to develop leadership skills,” says Jasmine. “I look forward to encouraging youth to believe in their talents and use their skills to become leaders in their own communities.”

Emma Turcotte – Outdoor Adventure Coordinator (Americorps Up2Us Coach)

Emma graduated from Earlham College in Indiana in 2018 with a degree in Human Development and Social Relations. While there, she spent a significant amount of time in the outdoor education department which allowed her to study abroad in New Zealand and hike part of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Emma also spent several summers working at childcare centers and camps as a trip leader. She spent the last year serving in an Americorps position at a non-profit loan lending organization in Boston before deciding that she wanted to go back to working with youth and being outside.

“I am most excited about the amazing adventures and the awesome kids!” says Emma. “I can’t wait to meet youth from different parts of the city and go on fun trips with them all year long!”

Charline Xu – Community Outreach Coordinator

Charline received a degree in Art Education and Sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art & Design. She has worked in a number of schools teaching art and more recently was employed teaching youth to connect with the outdoors with a focus on growing food and healthy nutrition. Charline is passionate about working with youth in educational and community-based settings.

“I want to continue to connect marginalized youth with the outdoors and am hoping to be a productive resource for both the communities and YES,” says Charline.  “I look forward to learning from all the staff and youth, as well as assisting with and being part of a strong team.”
