Macy’s and Clothes4Souls Donate 600 Winter Coats to YES Youth

January 25, 2019 by Jamie Burch Leave a Comment

Macy’s Regional Manager, Linda Sullivan – who is also a YES Alumni and Advisory Council member – poses with a teen in her new winter ski coat.

Youth Enrichment Services (YES) recently received a generous donation of 600 brand new winter jackets from Macy’s and Clothes4Souls to be distributed to low and moderate income youth involved in YES’s Operation SnowSports program.

Each winter, more than 800 youth have the opportunity to experience downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross country skiing with YES. Every young person receives equipment rentals, a lift ticket, transportation to/from the mountain, and ski/snowboard lessons. Many youth come through YES’s doors without appropriate winter gear – such as a waterproof jacket – to stay warm and dry on the mountain.

YES organized a special Coat Distribution Event on January 16, 2019.  We distributed 50 coats to low-income Boston youth when they came in to get fitted for their ski/snowboard equipment. Recipients of the coats included youth from several agencies that participate in YES’s ski/snowboard program, including a group of families from the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments which is a low-income housing development in Boston.

The remaining coats will continue to be distributed to low-income YES youth throughout the winter season during the Operation Snowsports Safety Orientations and Equipment Fittings.
