Earlier this month, with support from the ALKU Foundation and Tenney Mountain, 65 Boston youth had the opportunity to participate in a special day of skiing and snowboarding as part of the YES Diversity in the Outdoors series. Thank you to the staff at Tenney Mountain for their hospitality, and thank you to The ALKU Foundation for generously supporting this special day through their Catalyst Grant Program.
The goal of YES’s Diversity in the Outdoors series is to create a safe, uplifting and celebratory space for Black, Indigenous, and young people of color to participate in outdoor activities through togetherness and enhanced representation.
During this special day on the slopes, YES youth received ski and snowboard lessons and were encouraged to make new friends, connect over similarities, and celebrate differences that create unity in diversity. Youth also had the opportunity to reflect on what diversity and inclusion mean to them and sign a YES banner with a meaningful word to represent their individuality.
Thank you to the ALKU Foundation and Tenney Mountain for joining YES in our commitment to create a more inclusive outdoor community where all young people can experience the benefits of outdoor adventure and develop important life skills.
