Leadership Corps

The Leadership Corps (LC) program at Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is a program offering teens the opportunity to develop their leadership potential as they participate in and coach outdoor activities. Leadership Corps programs are offered during the school-year: Leadership Corps: Operation SnowSports (October-March); Leadership Corps: Outdoor Adventure (April-June). Spring Leadership Corps

Eligibility: 14+ year olds, enrolled in high school (9th-12th grade)

Priority Eligibility: Boston residents living in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Jamaica Plain. Individuals from low-and-moderate income households.  Previous YES program participants and returning LCs.

Mandatory Virtual Orientation: April 26th or April 27th (teen and parent/guardian must attend)

Learn-to-Bike Volunteer Orientation: April 30th

*Teen will attend an in-person orientation to learn about expectations and best practices for working with kids to better their bike skills and ride safely in groups.

Program Dates: May 2nd, 2022 – June 11th, 2022

*All program activities will happen between Monday-Thursday, 4pm-7pm and for select adventure/volunteers days on Saturday mornings/afternoons. Teen’s schedules will vary based on their chosen volunteer days, adventure days, and workshop days.

LC Spring Program has three components:

Workshops
  • Youth learn job readiness and leadership skills — relevant to their volunteer roles with YES and beyond
  • Hosted at YES, 412 Massachusetts Ave
  • Youth pick either Wednesday or Thursdays to attend, 4:30pm-6pm
Volunteering
  • Youth put their leadership skills into practice in our learn-to-bike programs and/or in helping to maintain our bike fleet
  • Hosted at easily accessible locations on the Orange Line
  • Youth pick at least 3 days to volunteer throughout the spring season
  • Volunteer day options are available weekly and include Mondays and Thursdays after school, or Saturday mornings. 
Adventures
  • Build youth confidence, love for the outdoors, and their leadership potential (hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, biking, college tours, and job shadows) 
  • Hosted at a variety of locations around Boston. Transportation to activity locations will be provided to and from YES. 
  • Youth pick at least 3 adventure days throughout the spring season
  • Adventure days happen weekly on either Tuesday after school or Saturday morning/afternoon

Applicants who submit an application after this date will be placed on a waitlist and notified about their acceptance into the program by YES staff if space is available/priority eligibility criteria are met. 


*Leadership Corps is a free-of-cost program.
