Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is excited to share stories of our many alumni who have continued on the pathway of success after their time with YES. The organization has served an estimated 100,000 young people in its 53-year history. Our first spotlight features Tyla Grooms, YES Alumni from the Class of 2014.
Tyla was involved with YES from 2008 until she graduated high school in 2014. She participated in several different programs, including Operation Snowsports, Outdoor Adventure, Girls Outdoor Adventure Leaders, Career Exploration, Junior Volunteer (currently known as the Leadership Corps), and the Youth Advisory Council. Tyla also volunteered for Swann Lodge overnights during the summer and was a recipient of the Richard Williams Memorial Scholarship.
“My time at YES taught me the importance of believing in myself and not being afraid of taking healthy risks,” Tyla told us. “Now I know the true value of teamwork and what it means to work and grow within a support system.” Tyla says that YES taught her that impossible things can be achieved with a little bit of hard work and dedication. She credits YES with teaching her that “hard work always brings a good reward” and the importance of empowering others.
“YES has helped shape me into the leader I am today,” says Tyla. She is currently working as a Supervising Senior Analyst within Trade Management at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH). She has been with BBH since graduating college and celebrated her three year anniversary with the firm on May 1. In Tyla’s free time, she enjoys going on walks and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
