At the beginning of the year, YES was invited to appoint two teens from our Leadership Corps Program to serve as Community Council Representatives on the Mayor’s Youth Council every month. On January 24, two Leadership Corps teens represented YES for the first time by attending the first meeting of the year!
The Community Council is a group of 60 youth representatives from partner organizations representing Boston’s vibrant communities who will meet with the Mayor’s Youth Council every month. The Community Council aims to provide a unified space where young voices can be heard, ideas can be exchanged, and collective action can be taken to address the needs of our youth population.
Participating on the council gives YES teens – and young people from across Boston – an opportunity for their voice to be heard in priorities, programs, and initiatives that impact Boston youth. This is a special opportunity for teens to collaborate with community leaders, share insights, and work collaboratively to create positive change.
“It brings me sincere joy to know that we are building the leaders of tomorrow. These students are passionate about the issues facing our city and are dedicated to working with city departments to find creative solutions,” said José Massó, Chief of Human Services for the City of Boston.
