YES is thrilled to welcome 24 Boston teens as staff this summer; 13 teens were hired through John Hancock’s MLK Scholars Program. Thank you to John Hancock for their generous support of YES!
As summer staff, teens will help support YES’s Outdoor Adventure and Track & Field programs as well as provide administrative support in the office. Teens serve in four impactful roles: Track & Field Assistant Coaches, Outdoor Adventure Leaders, Impact Interns, and Admin Interns. Teens will begin their employment the week by June 24-28 and participate in a week-long summer orientation and training.
Throughout Summer 2024:
- 12 teens will help introduce youth to the sport of track & field, coach them on running, jumping, and throwing, and help them develop physical stamina and strength in YES’s Track & Field Program.
- Seven teens will help plan and lead exciting outdoor activities for youth enrolled in YES’s Outdoor Adventure summer camp. This includes supporting kayaking, rock climbing, biking, and stand-up paddleboarding as well as overnight trips to YES’s Swann Lodge in the Berkshires.
- Three teens will document YES’s summer programs through photos, videos, interviews, and evaluation surveys. They will help capture the spirit, fun, and meaningful impact of this summer’s adventures.
- Two teens will be assigned to work in the YES office and provide administrative support to YES’s Programs and Development departments.
YES sets high standards and expectations for all of its summer staff. Teens are expected to demonstrate professionalism and maturity, work collaboratively, be problem solvers and positive role models, lead by example, and inspire younger youth with their love of the outdoors. We are excited to welcome them this week and work together to positively impact young people through outdoor experiences this summer!
